South West Law Society

The South West Law Society Inc is a not-for-profit incorporated association that supports the Legal Profession and Legal Practitioners in the South West region of Western Australia.

We are an organisation consisting of lawyers, legal professionals and support staff. Membership is open to legal practitioners, law students, Articled Clerks / Graduate law students, paralegals, legal secretaries and law clerks.

The South West Law Society was originally incorporated on 20 December 1978 and has had various iterations since then.

In 2017 the Society changed its name from the South West & Great Southern Law Society to its current name South West Law Society Inc. The society’s objectives are:

To support and protect the character, status and interests of the Legal Profession and Legal Practitioners (including those in both the private and public funded sector) in Western Australia in general and in the South West (extending to Albany) in particular.

To promote honourable practice amongst Legal Practitioners in the South West. Although, the Society will not be involved in allegations of misconduct or differences between Legal Practitioners.

To consider all issues affecting the interests of Legal Practitioners in the South West.

To communicate with Government, Government agencies etc. to further the interests of the Legal Profession in the South West.

To encourage collegiality and to provide opportunities to network amongst members and with non-members who work in the legal sphere and / or other professions in the South West (including but not limited to prosecutors, court staff, corrective services staff, medical and accounting professionals etc.)

To encourage people to study law and provide training, support and networking opportunities for law students, Articled Clerks / Graduate Law Students, Paralegals, Legal Secretaries and Law Clerks etc.

To keep members informed on topics of interest.

To promote the legal profession amongst the general public in the South West.

To consider changing legislation and if desired to make submissions on such changes.
